Best places to fish in the CA Delta?

The California Delta is a vast network of waterways, and some of the top fishing spots can vary depending on the time of year, water conditions, and the type of bass you're targeting. However, based on the video context provided, here are some general areas that are known to be productive for bass fishing in the Delta:

  1. Discovery Bay: As mentioned in the Wired2Fish video, the Discovery Bay area is a more protected region that doesn't get hit directly by the river system. This can lead to cleaner, healthier water, which is beneficial for bass, especially during the later fall when you're looking for areas where panfish like bluegills and red ear sunfish are prevalent.

  2. Central and Western Delta: The same video suggests that the central western parts of the Delta have more consistent fish, with about three feet of visibility and cleaner, more vibrant green plant life. These areas can be a degree or two warmer, which can make a significant difference in bass activity.

  3. Tidal Troughs: During bigger incoming tides, targeting the troughs can be effective as the higher water levels make larger bass more comfortable moving into these areas to feed, particularly on crawfish.

  4. Areas with Matted Vegetation: Brian Latimer's video highlights the importance of fishing in areas where bass feel hidden. He uses compact plastics like the Z-Man Goatz with a stout hook to target bass in these dense covers.

  5. Thule-Lined Banks: In the TacticalBassin video, fishing along the thules (dense vegetation like bulrushes) in shallow water is shown to be productive, especially for topwater action. These areas can be hotspots for ambush predators like bass.

Remember, the Delta is influenced by tides, so timing your fishing trip with the tides can be crucial. Look for incoming or outgoing tides that concentrate baitfish and in turn, attract bass. Also, keep in mind that conditions can change rapidly due to weather events and water management practices, so it's always a good idea to check the latest reports or talk to local anglers for current hotspots.

Lastly, it's essential to have a good GPS unit or chart plotter when navigating the Delta due to its complexity, as suggested in the videos. This will help you safely find and return to productive fishing spots.

Fishing Tidal Waters For Bass | What To Look For (Cal Delta) by Wired2Fish the spider web of delta canals and channels and creek arms so if you don't have a uh chart plotter a good gps unit on your boat coming out to the california delta i wouldn't suggest it so where we're headed out today is the greater discovery bay area and what that is it's kind of a more protected area that's not getting hit by a direct river system and this is kind of where we found that cleaner healthier water this time of year in the later fall kind of just looking for panfish to be prevalent because the delta this year have been kind of void of shad which is very awkward normally there's striped bass and largemouth bass all over the delta in the fall and they'll push every single arm of the delta you'll find stripers and largemouth busting shad but they've been doing a lot of invasive plant treatment and i believe that's reduced the amount of zooplankton in the water that shad feed on so what we're doing now is we're timing tides and finding areas with lots of bluegills and red air sunfish uh prevalent that these largemouth are gonna feed on so what they're gonna often do is they'll run the back of dead-end sloughs they'll be on flats where there's a degree or two warmer water and i mean the tide for example the area we're headed today i found a lot of bass

Fishing Tidal Waters For Bass | What To Look For (Cal Delta) by Wired2Fish all right the fascinating part about the delta is you kind of have to divide it by central delta north east south and west the reason for this is the delta is a feeder system for multiple different rivers we had a big six-inch rain day a few weeks back uh just before the crew made it out here and i live in i live on the stockton delta and that would be considered the south east or east delta more or less in my opinion which got blown out everything all the patterns that were true there and what happens is depending on these rivers is how much dissolved oxygen is in the water how clear it is how much sediment's in there so a good way to fish the delta is go around and look for an average depth clarity of around two and a half to three and a half feet once it gets too clear the fish are ultra selective because they're used to a little tint so i've been bouncing around central south north east and west so what i found is more of the central western delta to have more consistent fish and right about three foot of visibility and cleaner more vibrant green plant life and about a degree or two warmer and believe it or not they're like completely different ecosystems that you can access by boat but you got to know how to navigate the uh
