How to Tie the FG Knot the Best Leader Knot in Bass Fishing by Flukemaster → what I do is I bring my braid down below my reel on my rod and I take that braid and I put it in my mouth but before I do that to keep from dropping my rod no dropping the braid while it's in my mouth I just simply tie a couple of knots in end of no big deal just a couple of overhand knots just to get missed my teeth something to bite on to and then just pull that tight you can't even see it but you can feel it when it's in your mouth you put it in there and then you basically let the weight of your rod pull that tension you want to make sure that your line goes all the way to the tip of that rod it's got a lot of twists in it right now so it's twisting up get that down all right then what I do is I hold the butt of the rod in between my feet I do this sitting down on my boat I do it on my kayak I do it just about anywhere and then you take your break out your fluorocarbon and in this instance I'm using six and a half pound seaguar finesse fluorocarbon for my leader okay so one of the tricks that I've learned is try to keep that rod off to your left or off to your the side of the the hand

Fishing Leaders & Why YOU Need to Use Them by Fishing with Nat → I generally start with about 18 to 20 inches of leader if I change the lure a bunch of times and the leader gets down to about 8 inches I'll tie up a new one the exception to this is when I'm throwing top water baits like frogs I still like using fluorocarbon leaders for top water because there are so many Pike around here but I keep them short so they can provide abrasion resistance without weighing down the front of the bait I'm not worried about the visibility of the braided line when tossing a frog into lily pads or other dense vegetation because the fish can't get a good look at it anyway leaders can be tied directly to your main line using a line to line knot like a Double Uni a blood knot or an FG knot if you're using lures that spin a lot like inline Spinners or spoons use a swivel between your main line and your leader knots will catch slightly on your rod guides and swivels can damage your guides so that's another reason to keep your leaders at about 18 inches long and just keep that much line out between casts if you're fishing really clear water you might want to increase your leader to four to six feet long to make it even less likely that a fish will notice your line by The lure in this case you'll have to use a knot to attach
