Can I catch and release bass in Lake Biwa?

Catch and release for bass fishing in Lake Biwa is a bit of a gray area. According to the video context from "The Ugly Truth About Japan's Bass Fishing Scene! (3 Things You Didn't Know!)" by crazybassfisher, technically, you are supposed to kill the bass you catch in Lake Biwa because bass are considered an invasive species. However, in practice, many anglers in Japan, including those fishing at Lake Biwa, often release their bass back into the lake off-camera. This practice is done discreetly because showing the release of bass is illegal.

The reason behind this regulation is that the government and local farmers are concerned about the impact of bass on native fish species and the ecosystem. Despite this, the lake's abundant forage allows the remaining bass to grow quite large, which is why Lake Biwa is known for its giant bass.

So, while catch and release is technically not allowed, it is commonly practiced by anglers who wish to preserve the bass population for future fishing. If you plan to fish at Lake Biwa, be aware of these regulations and the local customs surrounding them.

If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!

The Ugly Truth About Japan's Bass Fishing Scene! (3 Things You Didn't Know!) by crazybassfisher and for our kids and the Next Generation so most Anglers have the thought presses of like you know what we are not going to kill the bass we're going to off screen off camera a little sneaky sneaky release the bass back into the lake so that's probably the biggest question I get about Japan bass fishing now in some of the other Lakes like iihara you're allowed to release those fish it's not a big deal there's not a whole lot of like native fish in that one so it all like I said it kind of just depends on the body of water that you're fishing on but obviously I like to fish like Bawa it has the giant fish in it and I don't mind them killing bass and it acts kind of like a cool system and I feel like that's why that lake has been able to grow such giant Bass is because of the government trying to kill the fish and their efforts in doing so has kind of diminished the population but the food source is still very very abundant so less fish but more or of the same bait just means that there's more bait for the bass that are around to grow really big and fat and I think that's why bewa produces such giant bass a lot of those fish in that Lake are like 6 to 10 lbs there's a lot

The Ugly Truth About Japan's Bass Fishing Scene! (3 Things You Didn't Know!) by crazybassfisher have to kill every bass that you catch in Japan and well the answer is yes but also no and what I mean by that is that it just really depends on the body of water that you're fishing over in Japan there's at this point there's probably over 45 to 50 different rivers or lakes that you can fish over there that have bass in them but for the most part there's a decent amount of lakes there in Japan to fish a lot of them are pretty difficult to fish overall but only a few of them you actually have to kill the Bassin and the biggest lake and the most popular lake lake bwa is one of the Lakes where you're supposed to kill the bass that you catch have to now every time that I've gone and I've seen guys catch fish this isn't really practiced by the average Japanese angler on like biwa 95% of Anglers will accidentally release their fish back in a lake but if you've ever seen any videos on Lake buwa of guys catching fish what normally happens that you know they catch the fish they're holding up they're getting cool shots but then it just like Cuts away to them talking and between that cut is when they release the fish it's just you can't show that you are releasing the fish just because it's illegal to do and so the four fish

The Ugly Truth About Japan's Bass Fishing Scene! (3 Things You Didn't Know!) by crazybassfisher it's all just like hey well there's bass in this Lake uh well hopefully they survive like that's basically the the extent of their conservation of of bass in Japan there is no efforts of trying to make it better or anything like that just because again they're still in vas of species so the government really won't get involved with any of it now A Reason maybe for that is that there is no fishing license required in Japan for bass fishing now maybe some Lakes will have like a like a day fee or a day permit to fish it but like Lake bwa you don't have to have a fishing license to fish it you can just show up and start fishing just because there is no game in fish it's quite fascinating that I can just pull up to anywhere and just start fishing without having to have a license whether that's salt water or fresh water it's quite interesting and the difference between here and of course over there in Japan and due to Bass Fishing becoming harder and harder in Japan a lot of guys are kind of starting to fall out of bass fishing and they're starting to go over to trout fishing up in the mountains or they're getting into saltwater right now in Japan saltwater fishing is like way up here in bass fishing's like way down here just because saltwater fishing is 10 times

The Ugly Truth About Japan's Bass Fishing Scene! (3 Things You Didn't Know!) by crazybassfisher that me and Phoenix caught within the 10 days of time span of fishing this last trip we definitely wink wink killed those bass and definitely did not release them back into the lake now this is just a thing that has been going on forever since the introduction of the bass it's an invasive species in the lake and kind of like here in Arizona on some of these bodies of water there's native fish that the government are trying to kind of protect and they don't want the bass to eat all of them which you know going to bewa quite a few times now the amount of Forge in that lake is just unbelievable it's just there it's everywhere it's on the North Lake it's on the South Lake there's so much bait and Forge in that Lake that the bass population definitely isn't really doing much damage on it but the government and the farmers they're kind of like pissed off that the bass are there so it's kind of a battle between fishermen and the farmers and the guys that go out and try and catch these native fish to feed the surrounding areas and those Farmers have way more importance and money to the government than just the little fishing guys so whatever the Farmers say or do the government will back and put a ton of money into it to help the farmers get whatever they want which is to basically
