How to tie a palomar knot?

The Palomar knot is a popular and reliable knot used in bass fishing. It is known for its strength and versatility, making it suitable for various fishing lines, including braided line, fluorocarbon, and monofilament.

To tie a Palomar knot, follow these steps:

  1. Start by doubling over your fishing line to create a loop. Make sure to leave enough tag end for tying the knot and attaching your lure or hook.
  2. Pass the loop through the eye of your lure or hook, ensuring that the lure can slide freely on two lines.
  3. Adjust the loop size to accommodate the entire lure or hook.
  4. Take the loop and tie a simple overhand knot around the other two lines. Bring the loop underneath and pass it through the other loop you just created.
  5. Snug the knot up a little but avoid tightening it fully at this point.
  6. Pass the lure or hook through the loop you created.
  7. Moisten the line around the knot and the loop to reduce friction and help with tightening.
  8. Finally, pull on the main line to tighten the knot securely.

It's important to note that in some videos, they mention wetting the line before cinching down the knot. This helps reduce friction and ensures a tighter knot. Additionally, some videos emphasize not crossing the lines before tying the overhand knot, as this can weaken the knot.

Remember to practice tying the Palomar knot before heading out on your fishing trip to ensure you can tie it confidently and securely.

How to tie the Palomar knot (dropshot knot) by Fishing with Nat today we're tying a palomar knot which is an excellent all-around knot but it really excels with the drop shot rig the first thing to do for a palomar knot is to bring your line back and create about a 10 inch long loop so now i've got this long loop at the end and you're gonna pass this whole loop right through the eye of your lure or your hook okay so now i've got a loop here and the lure is sliding free on two lines i've got a loop on one side and on the other side is my main line and my tag okay so now position your loop so that it's big enough to fit your whole lure through because eventually we will be putting the entire lure through this loop your next step is to take your loop and tie a simple overhand knot around these other two lines so bring it underneath and then you're going to place this loop right through this other loop that you just created and pull that through so now you've got this little loop here now don't tighten this knot all the way yet just snug it up a little bit now you're going to take your lure and pass it through this loop okay bring that loop up now you want to moisten the line all around the knot and that whole loop once you've done that you can pull on the main line

Ott's Garage | How To Tie the Palomar Knot by OttDeFoe we're back here in the garage and i want to show you how to tie a palomar knot a palomar knot is one of the truly strongest and easiest knots combined to be able to learn for bass fishing it's something that i honestly tied for a very long time and i still find myself tying on occasion out there on a regular basis on the bass pro tour so what you want to do you want to start by doubling over your line and i'm using a braided line here just to make it really easy to see but i want to start by pulling out plenty of tag double that line over and then work that down to a nice point whether that's fluorocarbon monofilament braided line whatever you're using work that down to a pretty nice little point and then pass that through the eye of your bait whatever that may be and then you're going to pull out that and kind of get that evenly spaced between the end of your loop plus your tag and your main line over here now i'm left-handed so just keep that in mind on anything you ever see me working on but i am left-handed so this step here is something that a lot of people overlook but is one of the most important steps and making a strong palomar knot you want to make sure that your lines never cross
