Recommendations for a lightweight trolling motor for a kayak?

When it comes to choosing a lightweight trolling motor for a kayak, there are a few factors to consider. First, you'll want to determine the power and thrust you need for your kayak. In the video by Flukemaster, he mentions using a MotorGuide 54-pound thrust trolling motor, which is suitable for most kayak fishing situations. This motor is battery-powered and can be steered using foot pedals or a rudder system.

Another important consideration is the battery life of the trolling motor. In the video by Wired2Fish, he mentions using Dakota lithium batteries, specifically the 100 amp hour and 54 amp hour models. Both of these batteries have provided sufficient power for a full day of fishing, even with constant use of the trolling motor. It's important to note that the battery life may vary depending on factors such as speed settings and water conditions.

Additionally, the weight of the trolling motor is crucial for kayak fishing. In the video by Wired2Fish, he mentions using a 45-pound trolling motor head, which is relatively lightweight and suitable for a kayak. The goal is to keep the overall weight of the kayak and gear manageable for portaging and maneuverability.

Based on the information provided in the videos, I would recommend considering a trolling motor with around 50-60 pounds of thrust, as this should provide sufficient power for most kayak fishing situations. Look for a battery-powered trolling motor that is compatible with lightweight lithium batteries, such as the Dakota lithium batteries mentioned in the video. Finally, prioritize a lightweight trolling motor head to keep the overall weight of your kayak manageable.

If you have any specific kayak models or additional requirements, please provide more details so that I can offer more tailored recommendations.

What's Inside My Boat? -- (FULL Walkthrough) by Jon B. for a couple of reasons one of which it's powerful if you have an 80 pound thrust trolling motor on a Kin Kin boat that's 16 foot this thing can seriously move especially on high I would say the primary reason as to why I bought this motor over any other motor out there is for this little button right here this motor is so smart that if I'm on a goodbye tour if I break off and need to retie I can press that button right there and it will keep my boat in place it's essentially putting your car in park and I know a lot of other motors out there have it but this is one of the less expensive MinnKota models that have this feature the other thing I like about this Tron motor is that has that rocking feel similar to how most foot pedal motors I didn't want something that was completely flat where I would be like fatigued but I also couldn't have like an elevated foot pedal too because I've got a compartment where that foot pedal should go and I can't really move that so this is really nice it still gives me that rocking feeling it doesn't like wear me out and break my knees at the end of the day it's not a bachelor I like it it's fast it's great on this boat the shops a little too big something you don't hear often but it

My Kayak Tournament Setup - Kayak Bass Fishing by Flukemaster the motor guide now for a day of fishing that 54 would do just fine for most of you guys um it would do fine for me even if i fished all day long because these things last so long but my 54's running the electronics because uh they suck up a lot of energy so i had to um i'm put the 100 amp hour in the back because that's basically all i've got but i wish i had another 54 we could drop it back there to admit lighten things up just a little bit i've got the uh the bonafide or the yak attack um rudder that i run in the back and what's nice is i can run that that motor guide i can run it straight and steer with my foot pedals with the rudder and it really does help while i'm covering the bank and work and fishing all along the bank and being able to steer and fish at the same time really really great i don't use my power pole because in the summertime usually because i'm mostly fishing offshore and it's useless and so i don't have my power pole in the back but uh but i do i do have it on when i'm fishing shallow water and then last but not least just in case something happens and i have to paddle i got my bending branches carbon pro that stays on the side

ONE YEAR Fishing the Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136 Kayak | What I Gained as an Angler by Wired2Fish cold you know maybe it gets cold at night you don't want to expose your outboard motor to extreme temperatures so what you can do with a kayak given this trolling motorhead here i can go out on the river load up my kayak when i'm done bring the battery and the trolling motor inside so having a kayak has really granted me early access to a lot of bodies of water you know i use a dakota lithium battery to cut down on the overall weight and lots of power and i know that's a question you probably have is well okay this 45 pound trim motor head is battery powered how long does it last i have not once run out of battery and i'm pretty diligent about charging at the end of use every time but you know like i said i've custom mapped all day long where the trolling motor is on like six seven going back and forth for seven eight hours and i haven't lost any power the trunk motor doesn't seem to slow down the battery life in this thing has not been an issue so i've used both the 100 amp power and the 54 amp power dakota lithium batteries and like i said i haven't run out of power with either of them obviously the 54 amp hour is smaller and lighter so i'll use that one selectively you know if i'm going way back in the woods or whatever
