Solitude Fly Company

Field Notes

A PMD half-dun is meant to imitate a mayfly in the transitional stage between emerger and adult, making it effective when trout are keying on insects just below or in the surface film. Fish it on a dead drift in slow to moderate currents, especially during a hatch or when trout are rising selectively.

Pros

  • Excellent match for PMD hatches
  • Sits naturally in the surface film
  • Good for selective trout

Cons

  • Can be less effective when no hatch is present
  • Small dry fly requires careful presentation
