Solitude Fly Company

Field Notes

A stonefly dry fly is best used when trout are feeding near the surface on adult stoneflies, especially along rocky streams and riffles. Drift it naturally with a dead-drift presentation near banks, seams, and pocket water where stoneflies are likely to fall into the water.

Pros

  • Realistic stonefly profile for trout surface feeding
  • Good choice for riffles, pocket water, and bank edges

Cons

  • Can be hard to see in rough water
  • Less effective when fish are not keying on stoneflies
