Gardner River - Winter Fly Box

The Gardner River Winter Fly Box is hand-curated specifically for the conditions, hatches, and trout behavior you'll encounter on the Gardner's year-round section — from Osprey Falls downstream to the confluence with the Yellowstone — from December through March. This is one of only two locations in all of Yellowstone with year-round designated fishing access, and the Gardner earns it with consistent midday midge hatches. This box is built around the Gardner's winter hatch calendar — midges in sizes 18–22 with occasional micro Caddis and BWO activity on mild afternoons. Every fly was chosen with waiting for the midday window and fishing slow pools and eddies during the hatch in mind, giving you exactly what you need to match what the fish are eating at this time of year. What's in the box: 36 flies total — 18 unique patterns, 2 of each — covering Zebra Midges, Midge Clusters, Griffith's Gnats, BWO patterns, RS2s, and Palomino Midges. No filler. No patterns that don't belong on this river in this season. Pro tip from the water: Wait for the midday window. Gardner winter fishing is an 11am-to-2pm game — cold temperatures suppress midge activity outside this window. Dress warm and be patient.
