Firehole River - Spring Fly Box

The Firehole River Spring Fly Box is hand-curated specifically for the conditions, hatches, and trout behavior you'll encounter on the Firehole from May through early June. While every other river in the park is blown out with snowmelt, the Firehole's geothermal input keeps it clear and fishable from opener. It's the first — and often only — river worth fishing in Yellowstone in early May. This box is built around the Firehole's spring hatch calendar — BWOs, PMDs, and Caddis on a river that fishes like a giant spring creek. Every fly was chosen with precise presentation on flat water with long leaders in mind, giving you exactly what you need to match what the fish are eating at this time of year. What's in the box: 36 flies total — 18 unique patterns, 2 of each — covering BWO dries, PMD nymphs, Caddis patterns, Zebra Midges, and Soft Hackle wets. No filler. No patterns that don't belong on this river in this season. Pro tip from the water: The Biscuit Basin stretch is consistently productive from opener. The geothermal input keeps water temps in the feeding zone well before other sections of the park are even fishable.
