The Black Beetle is a high-floating terrestrial dry fly that imitates one of the most common insects found along grassy banks and overhanging vegetation. Its foam body and subtle profile make it an ideal choice during the summer months when beetles frequently fall into Montana’s rivers. This fly excels in calm water, pocket water, and cutbank zones where trout are opportunistically feeding on terrestrials. Fish it solo or as part of a dry-dropper rig for aggressive surface takes. A must-have for July through September.
