Why these fit

For mid-summer, the strongest matches are dry flies and terrestrials. Bozeman FlyWorks D0002 - Elk Hair Caddis - Tan and Barbless Flies Bosnian Mid-Summer Caddis Selection fit classic caddis activity, especially in riffles and faster water. Bozeman FlyWorks D0012 - Stimulator - Yellow is a good summer attractor for yellow sallies and small hoppers. Bozeman FlyWorks D0017 - Beetle is a strong mid-to-late summer terrestrial when trout are looking up near banks and vegetation. If fish are sipping tiny bugs on calm water, Big Y Fly Co Harrop's CDC Biot Dun Trico - Solitude - Mayfly Dry Fly is the technical option.

Technique notes

Fish the caddis and Stimulator on dead drift with a light, drag-free presentation. Use the Beetle tight to grassy banks, under overhangs, and along meadow edges. For the Trico, go long leader, fine tippet, and very soft presentations on flat water. A dry-dropper setup can work well with the caddis or Stimulator if trout are not fully committing to the surface.

When to switch

Switch to the Trico when trout are selectively sipping tiny insects on calm water. Switch to the Beetle when terrestrials are falling in and fish are holding close to cover. If you’re fishing deeper or getting no surface eats, move to a nymph or streamer setup instead of staying on dries.
