The next Cicada brood is upon us! When the next brood hatches, all fish partake in the feeding frenzy. Use a thicker leader and tippet 1x to 3x not just for fighting larger fish, but because thicker lines help cast these heavy flies more accurately. A realistic cicada fly for huge strikes during the summer. This year there is a dual hatch mid-May to late June of the 17 and 13 cicada hatches. Brood XIII and Brood XIX This co-emergence hasn’t occurred in 221 years and won’t happen again until 2245. The broods will emerge in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Virginia.
