The Fly Crate

Field Notes

Use this nymph when trout are feeding on mayfly nymphs, especially in rivers and streams. It is a good subsurface fly for dead-drifting under an indicator or as part of a nymph rig in moderate current.

Pros

  • Realistic mayfly nymph profile
  • Effective for trout in subsurface feeding situations
  • Simple, versatile drift fly

Cons

  • Not a good choice when fish are actively feeding on the surface
  • Small fly can be harder to see and manage
