Field Notes

A classic subsurface nymph pattern for trout, especially when fish are feeding on mayfly nymphs or other small aquatic insects. Fish it dead-drift under an indicator, as part of a nymph rig, or in a Euro-nymph setup in clear to moderately stained water.

  • Effective all-around trout nymph pattern
  • Flashback adds visibility and attraction
  • Small #20 size is good for selective fish

Cons

  • Tiny size can be hard to tie on and see
  • May require fine tippet and careful presentation
