Deep Tail Dancer® is the strongest all-around deep diver here: it’s built for casting or trolling, reaches down to 30 feet, and has a wide wobble that suits open water and deeper structure.
Deep diving John is a good bass-focused option if you want a tighter wobble and a bait that’s designed to get to about 20 feet around points, ledges, and offshore cover.
Chubb's Lures DEEP DIVER 4-1/2″ is the best deeper-running Chubb’s option, with a 16-28 ft dive range and a larger profile for aggressive fish.
Chubb's Lures DEEP DIVER 3-1/4″ is the lighter, shallower of the Chubb’s deep divers, useful when fish are suspended higher or you need a smaller bait in the 10-21 ft zone.
Technique notes
For deep diving crankbaits, use a steady retrieve first and let the bill do the work.
Cast past the target and crank down until the bait reaches depth before contacting rock, wood, or ledges.
Around cover, pause briefly after deflections if the bait keeps floating up; that often triggers strikes.
If trolling, the Chubb’s deep divers and Deep Tail Dancer® are the best fits from this set.
For bass, the tighter-wobbling Deep diving John is a solid choice when fish are keyed on structure and not chasing a big wobble.
When to switch
Switch to a shallower crankbait if fish are holding above the listed dive ranges or if you’re constantly digging bottom too hard.
Switch to a lipless bait or jerkbait if fish are suspended and not reacting to a diving plug.
Switch to a bigger deep diver if you need more depth or want a stronger vibration in stained water.
Switch to a finesse presentation if fish follow but won’t commit to the wobble.
