Description

Zoom Bait Company WEC Crankbaits--Mint Condition in box Own a piece of crankbait history! These are super hard to find early model production year Zoom crankbaits that were made from 2005-2007. For those that are new to these crankbaits, WEC was a division of Zoom Baits. Zoom Baits founder and owner, the late Ed Chambers, was the chief lure designer at WEC and a true craftsman. Each Zoom crankbait is hand signed on the bill with a small engraving of Ed's initials. WEC balsa baits were designed and built with a passion for creating exceptional balsa baits. Only a few thousand were made each year--and became famous with several notable tournament wins. Ed didn't take any shortcuts. No rough wood, no spotty finishes on these cranks. Each bait went through a painstaking process and was handcrafted one-at-a-time going through an incredible 58 individual steps for one purpose--to catch fish. These are some of the most durable finishes that you find on a balsa bait. WEC Crankbaits are a must for the crankbait collector. What makes a Zoom Crankbait One of the Best? -Dense, hand-picked balsa that is multi-coat sealed, multi-coat primed, then painted -Rear hook hanger is screwed into a hardwood dowel which has been inserted into the tail -Belly weight/hook hanger and Lexan bill are glued in with a super-strong adhesive -Pull point is drilled and inserted through the bill -Stainless steel hardware is used to avoid rust and corrosion -All baits are finished with an epoxy gel coat, not a thin, less durable lacquer or acrylic

Field Notes

A balsa crankbait like this is best for covering water and targeting fish that are feeding on baitfish or reacting to a wobbling plug. Use a steady retrieve around cover, wood, and shallow-to-deeper transition areas; the deep runner version is suited to reaching fish holding below the surface. It also has collector appeal because it is an early-production Zoom WEC bait made in limited numbers.

Pros

  • Handcrafted balsa construction
  • Limited-production, collectible early Zoom/WEC model
  • Designed for a strong crankbait wobble and fish-catching action

Cons

  • Mint-condition collector item may be expensive to fish with
  • Balsa construction can be less durable than plastic in heavy cover
