Skunk Tail

$9.95 - $14.95
If you’ve been frustrated with inconsistent bucktail, you’re not alone—and it’s exactly what led us to start sourcing our own materials. Along the way, we discovered one of the most overlooked tying materials out there: skunk tails. Skunk tail hair is an excellent alternative to bucktail—and in some cases, even better. The fibers are typically longer (often 3.5”–4.5”, sometimes 6”+), making them perfect for patterns that demand length and movement. While a skunk tail may look smaller than a deer tail at first glance, the usable white hair is surprisingly comparable. We sort these as carefully as possible: standard tails are packed one per bag, while smaller or thinner tails are paired two per bag. Occasionally, we offer XL tails with extra length and fullness. As a general guide, average tails run about 10”–12”, while XLs fall in the 13”–15” range. If you’re tying big profiles and don’t need dyed colors, skunk tails are absolutely worth a shot—the Beast Fleye shown here was tied entirely with one. All tails are professionally tanned, with soft, clean hides and minimal odor—nothing like what you’d expect from the name.
