Description

Kapok Dry Fly Dubbing Natural Dispenser is the ultimate in dubbing for your fishing flies as it is very buoyant. Kapok is a natural hollow fibre that retains its buoyancy and will help your dry flies float better than any other natural dubbing- it is half the thickness of superfine dubbing! Ideal for tiny dry flies and great for nymphs. It provides perfect definition on small flies instead of an explosion of bulky traditional dubbing on a small hook. Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) is a natural fibre, it has been available for many years growing throughout the tropics where it is cultivated. It is a moisture-resistant, quick drying, resilient, and buoyant fibre and weighs only one-eighth as much as cotton. Kapok has historically been used in life jackets and life boats, supporting as much as 30 times its own weight in water. Individual fibres are on average 1.8cm/0.7inch, with diameters of 30 to 36 micrometres, making it finer than even the smallest superfine dubbing. Comes in Semperfli's low profile dubbing boxes. Each compartment contains the same amount of dubbing that you get in a standard dubbing dispenser.

Field Notes

Use this dubbing for tying tiny dry flies and other small fly patterns where buoyancy and fine definition matter. The kapok fiber is especially useful when you want flies to float well and avoid bulky bodies on small hooks. It can also be used on nymph patterns when a light, natural dubbing profile is desired.

Pros

  • Very buoyant for dry flies
  • Fine fibers create a clean, small-fly profile
  • Quick drying and moisture resistant

Cons

  • Not a finished fishing lure
  • Best suited to fly tying rather than on-water use
