Description

Of all the lures in the 247 Lures repertoire, the Sea Special is definitely on the short list of “must have” lures! Designed to be fished in rough water and fast current, the Sea Special doesn’t roll sideways like other pencil popper style plugs. At 7.25″ long and 3oz, the Sea Special is the biggest lure in the everyday 247 Lures lineup. Surfcasters can throw the Sea Special out past the breakers and work it back in with the rollers. If you’re fishing from a boat or kayak, the Sea Special is perfect for those current rips at your favorite breachway or reef. And where the Sea Special really shines is the ‘Big Ditch’, the Cape Cod Canal! As of January 2024, all our topwater lures - including this Sea Special - are being rigged standard with one treble hook on the belly swivel and an inline single hook on the tail. This is a change we’ve been aiming to make for several years now, but finally have a quality vendor for the VMC inline singles we’ve been wanting to use. (Exact weight and colors of lures will vary batch to batch and lure to lure. All of our lures are made in small batches, many of our colors are custom blends we mix ourselves, and even our internal lead weights are cut by hand. We do our best to keep lure shape, weight, and paint as consistent as possible, but 247 Lures is very far from mass-production where every lure is exactly the same.)

Field Notes

Built for rough water and fast current, especially when surfcasting or fishing breachways, reefs, and canal-style current rips. Work it back with a steady walk-and-pause or chugging retrieve so it stays stable and throws spray without rolling sideways.

Pros

  • Stable in rough water and fast current
  • Good for long casts from shore
  • Rigged with a treble and inline single for better hookup options

Cons

  • Large profile may be too much for calm water or small bait situations
  • Topwater presentation can be limited by heavy wind or very rough surface chop
