Field Notes

This is a trout nymph pattern designed to imitate an aquatic insect pupa or emerger. Fish it subsurface under a dry fly, indicator, or as part of a nymph rig in freestone rivers and other trout water. It should be especially effective when trout are feeding on drifting insects near the bottom or in the mid-column.

Pros

  • Realistic pupa/emerger profile
  • Good match for pressured trout
  • Small sizes suit technical water

Cons

  • Not a good choice for surface feeders
  • Small hook sizes can be hard to see and tie on
