Description

This midge and chironomid fly pattern makes a great dropper on any rig and represents a wide variety of aquatic insects. More specifically it can represent a chironomid that can be fished roughly 15 inches or so off the bottom of a lake or pond where they typically will set up and passing fish will come by looking for them. We have had some great days out on the lake with this fly. Hook Size 18 & 20 Available.

Field Notes

This chironomid/midge pattern is best fished as a subsurface dropper in lakes and ponds, especially when trout are feeding on emerging insects near the bottom. The listing suggests suspending it about 15 inches off the bottom, making it a good choice for stillwater rigs and slow presentations.

Pros

  • Effective chironomid/midge imitation for stillwater trout
  • Works well as a dropper on multi-fly rigs
  • Small hook sizes suit selective fish

Cons

  • Very specialized for subsurface stillwater fishing
  • Small size can be harder to see and handle
