Mini Sea Special - Flat-Bottom Pencil Popper - 5.5" ~1.5oz

A similar body style like its big brother the Sea Special, but in a smaller, easier to cast package! The flat bottom will help keep this pencil popper upright in rough and swift water. This is an excellent lure to throw when a bigger 3oz Sea Special is just too big, but you still need a long range cast. Mini Sea Specials are 5.5” long and approximately 1.4-1.65oz. Take note: this Mini Sea Special does not float up high on the surface like similarly sized pencil poppers. The Mini Sea Special is a bit heavier, and will start to sink when it hits the water. When fishing the Mini Sea Special, anglers must begin their retrieve immediately as the lure hits the water, and continue moving it quickly to keep this plug up on the surface. Our other pencil poppers like the original Sea Special and the Fish Stick were designed to be fish-catching but also very easy for anglers to work/fish. This Mini Sea Special was designed for those very specific occasions when you need a heavier lure and longer cast in a smaller presentation. If you’re having trouble working this Mini Sea Special up on the surface, chances are you’re not retrieving fast enough. As of January 2024, all our topwater lures - including this Mini Sea Special - are being rigged standard with one treble hook on the belly swivel and an inline single hook on the tail. This is a change we’ve been aiming to make for several years now, but finally have a quality vendor for the VMC inline singles we’ve been wanting to use. All of our lures are made in small batches, many of our colors are custom blends we mix ourselves, and even our internal lead weights are cut by hand.
