Berkley Fishing

Field Notes

Aberdeen hooks are lightweight, long-shank hooks commonly used for live bait or soft baits where a thin-wire hook is preferred. They’re useful when you want easy bait rigging and a more natural presentation, especially for panfish and other smaller species.

Pros

  • Lightwire design helps with easy hook penetration
  • Long shank is good for bait rigging and easier unhooking

Cons

  • Not ideal for heavy cover or hard-fighting fish
  • Thin wire can bend under heavy pressure
