Description

Our favorite hooks for tying tenkara flies. The 2X length hook gives you more room to build up a good-looking tenkara fly . The medium-weight hook allows you to sink your tenkara fly when you want to fish sub-surface but will also fish fine on the surface when you keep your tenkara rod tip high. These are the Firehole Sticks, Model 618, a great hook for tying reverse hackle tenkara flies such as the Ishigaki, Amano, Takayama or Oki Kebari. There are 36 hooks per box. Available in sizes #8, #12 and #16 (same sizes as we use for the flies we sell) Learn how to tie tenkara flies here

Field Notes

Use these fly-tying hooks to build your own tenkara flies. The longer 2X shank gives more space for tying materials, and the medium-weight hook helps your fly sink when fishing sub-surface (especially with the rod tip lowered).

Pros

  • 2X length provides more room to tie tenkara flies neatly
  • Medium-weight helps sink the fly for sub-surface fishing
  • Designed for reverse hackle tenkara patterns
  • Multiple sizes (#8, #12, #16) and 36 hooks per box

Cons

  • Requires fly-tying skills and materials to complete flies
  • Hook size selection is limited to the listed sizes
