Description

A cross between the pheasant tail and brassie. Works well where ever there are stonefly or mayfly nymphs. Classic profile, sinks fast, sleek, and reflects light to attract multitudes of fish. Great profile that attracts in even murky waters. Excellent lake pattern, and in small sizes great midge pattern. Another classic pattern from John Barr.

Field Notes

A classic nymph pattern for imitating stonefly, mayfly, and even small midge stages. Fish it dead-drifted under an indicator or as part of a nymph rig in rivers, streams, and lakes; the slim profile and wire/metal body help it get down quickly. It can also be effective in slightly off-color water where the flash helps fish find it.

Pros

  • Sinks quickly
  • Slim, realistic profile
  • Flash and ribbing add visibility
  • Versatile for rivers and lakes

Cons

  • Can be too subtle in very heavy stain
  • Small sizes may be hard to see without an indicator
