Buchu Esters

Buchu Esters are formulated around organic South African buchu oil, a highly distinctive ingredient known for its intense minty, blackcurrant like aroma , supported by a carefully balanced ester profile. The main attractor in Buchu Esters is organic South African buchu essential oil . Buchu has a very distinctive aroma, often described as minty with a strong blackcurrant edge. It provides a clean, sharp fruit note that forms the backbone of the flavour profile. This is paired with Ester Blend 12 , a well known fruit ester blend valued for its depth and powerful aroma that certainly takes the breath away. The esters enhance the buchu oil and add a fuller fruit profile, giving the bait its characteristic ester driven smell without masking the natural buchu aroma. A mixed fruit appetite stimulant powder has been included to add another layer to the attractor package. As a powdered ingredient, it releases at a different rate to the liquid components, helping to maintain attraction over a longer period rather than delivering everything at once. A liquid candy sweetener is used to introduce a smooth sweetness, similar to classic confectionery. This rounds off the sharper fruit and ester notes and gives the bait a balanced and pleasant taste profile. Buchu Esters are rolled using our milk based pop up mix, made with high quality milk proteins and based on a hookbait formula we have used and refined for many years. This base provides consistent buoyancy, controlled leakage and a firm yet usable texture. During early field testing, one of our good friends, Lee Wheeler, asked if we had a name for the hookbaits yet and jokingly suggested “ p*ss takers ”. The results were simply taking the p*ss, continuing to produce bites even through the colder months. Whilst the name didn’t make it onto the label, the confidence behind the comment has certainly stuck. Buchu Esters can be fished confidently as a single hookbait or alongside free offerings. It is a fruity, ester based hookbait, built using proven ingredients and a well balanced recipe.
