Field Notes

A line counter helps you measure how much line has been let out so you can repeat trolling passes and reach specific depths more consistently. It is especially useful when fishing with planer boards, downriggers, or any presentation where exact line length matters.

Pros

  • Helps place baits at repeatable distances
  • Useful for trolling and depth control

Cons

  • Does not directly measure actual lure depth
  • Adds another device to manage on the rod

Line Counter….. It is ok….using it to mark 100# spectra for fishing Bluefin Tuna at night, makes every 100’, it is accurate but i am sure not the intended purpose of the device. Definitely cost effective.
