This rod is perfect powerhouse for launching heavy sinking lines with streamers or surface poppers to our freshwater lake stripers here in the South. It'll get it done for bull reds too!

When it came to deciding what rod I really wanted to take to Hawaii for big bones, hands down my first choice was the Winston Air 2 Max. After casting multiple rods for comparison...it was an easy choice. It is such a pleasure to cast, powerful rod, that is supper accurate. The easier I cast it the better, and in saying that, if I need to push it...it can handle that too. I couldn't be more happier with the decision to go with the Air 2 Max. As an adult male, it's probably one of the better choices I've made in my life :) I highly recommend anyone who is considering a rod for chasing saltwater species to take a HARD look at the Air 2 Max...it doesn't disappoint! Nuff Said.

Here in Charleston, a lot of the shots we take at redfish can be 15 feet from the boat or 70 feet from the boat. You may be cruising a summertime mudflat and see a fish appear out of nowhere, or you may see them schooling down a creek that's blocked off to you by an oysterbed and need to launch out line as far as you can. This rod does both of those things incredibly. It gets a tremendous amount of praise on other reviews for its distance capabilities, but not nearly enough in my opinion on it's short game as well. In terms of accuracy, this thing is like a rifle. Pick a spot in front of the fish and put the fly there. That simple. It carries bulky redfish flys with ease and has serious backbone to handle fish. I don't think I'd hesitate to fish for Louisiana bulls with this 8. Does well with heavier lines, bonefish plus or grand slam would be my recommendation for most flats fishing scenarios.

I am a long time Winston customer from the IM6 days and have a number of IM6 rods that I cherish. I have had several Winston salt rods from the early boron days. I principally fish for striped bass on Cape Cod Bay. I fish a lot. I live there for the season so most mornings I am out. Some days are windy, some are calm. Some days call for big and/or weighted flies. Some days are small flies and sight fishing with a long and (for stripers) light leader. The Air 2 MAX is by far the best casting, most fun rod I have owned for inshore saltwater applications. Very light in the hand and it just handles everything with ease.

8’6 8 wt has been a great snook and juvenile tarpon rod, just revived my 9wt, looking forward to putting through paces in the glades.
