Due to the characteristics of PE line using knot-type knots significantly reduces its strength and makes it more susceptible to breaking. To maximize its strength always use friction knots such as FG knots when connecting leaders etc. Always protect your hands with gloves or a towel when tightening the knot. Tightening with bare hands may dig into your hand or cause it to break. Tightening with bare hands is not enough. PE line has no elasticity so a knot that is not tight enough easily comes undone leading to a lost fish. To ensure a successful landing of a large fish tighten the knot with sufficient force. As a guide when you have tightened the line with sufficient force its color will darken and become more transparent. This color change is a sign that it is securely tightened. When tying the line directly to a swivel the line itself is highly lubricating so even if you tighten it sufficiently using a standard knot like a clinch knot it will slip out if strong force is applied. Therefore after tying the standard knot be sure to perform a half hitch several times preferably at least 10 times. ● To ensure best performance: If you will not be using the reel for an extended period of time we recommend removing the line from the spool and draining it before storing it.
