Orvis

Field Notes

This is a Blue-Winged Olive emerger pattern meant to imitate insects transitioning from nymph to adult. Fish it in or just below the surface film during mayfly hatches, especially in calm to lightly moving water. Dead-drift it with a subtle rise or twitch to suggest an emerging insect.

Pros

  • Effective BWO emerger imitation
  • Good choice during selective trout feeding
  • Can be fished in multiple sizes

Cons

  • Can be less effective outside hatch periods
  • Small fly may be hard to see on the water
