Field Notes

Use walking sinkers on bottom rigs where you want the weight to move slightly as the line changes direction. They’re commonly used for drifting or casting to keep the bait in contact with the bottom while allowing some lateral movement.

Pros

  • Compact, bottom-contact weight for rigging
  • Helps maintain bait position while allowing some movement

Cons

  • Not a lure—requires a hook and leader/rig to fish
