Cortland Line Company

Field Notes

This is a Type 5 sinking fly line for getting flies down in the water column on freshwater rivers and lakes. The 5-6 IPS sink rate and weight-forward taper make it useful for streamer fishing, nymphing, and other presentations where you need controlled depth and good shooting distance.

Pros

  • Type 5 sink rate gets flies down quickly
  • Weight-forward taper helps with distance shooting
  • Hang markers aid depth control

Cons

  • Not ideal for shallow presentations
  • Sinking line can be less versatile than floating line
