Field Notes

This is a surface popper designed to be worked on top with short pops and pauses. It is best when fish are feeding near the surface, especially around bait schools, current seams, or low-light periods. The cupped face throws spray and makes a loud commotion to draw strikes from inshore predators.

Pros

  • Strong surface commotion and splash
  • Good for calling fish up from distance
  • Simple cast-and-retrieve presentation

Cons

  • Less effective when fish are holding deep
  • Can be ignored in very calm, pressured conditions
