Hareline Dubbin

Field Notes

These are fly-tying beads used to add weight and a fish-attracting profile to nymphs, egg patterns, and other subsurface flies. They are commonly threaded onto hooks before tying or used as a head component to help flies sink and imitate eggs or bead-head nymphs.

Pros

  • Useful for adding weight and flash to fly patterns
  • Versatile for nymphs and egg-style flies
  • Multiple bright colors for matching water conditions

Cons

  • Not a finished fly by itself
  • Color choice may be too bright in very clear water
