Description

THE FLY Sunrays have caught more fish than perhaps any other modern fly. Originating from the Norwegian Laerdal river and Ray Brooks, where Mikael used to ghillie, it has revolutionised the fly tradition in many ways. This soft swimming version, tied on a TTT, maintains the same colours - the striking black and white contrast - but with ostrich hackles forming a modern soft drop form. It swims beautifully. When you see the white and black ostrich fibers mix and move, it's easy to understand why this is such an effective pattern. And like all Samurais, it's designed to be fished fast! FEATURES – Slim elongated profile – Tungsten turbo tube and micro turbo cone – Fished with loose hook, use FITS Tubing or Loose Bodies to create different effective combinations – Elegant distinct silhouette – Effective fished fast – Synthetic jungle cock

Field Notes

This is a fast-fished saltwater fly designed to imitate a slim baitfish profile with a soft swimming action. It’s best stripped quickly in moving water or around current seams where a long, flowing silhouette and contrast can trigger aggressive takes.

Pros

  • Slim elongated profile for a natural baitfish look
  • Soft ostrich hackles create lively movement
  • Designed to be fished fast
  • Tungsten tube/cone helps it track well

Cons

  • Requires a faster retrieve to fish as intended
  • Less suited to very slow presentations
