Orvis: Quality Clothing, Fly-Fishing Gear & More Since

Field Notes

Use as an attractor dry fly when trout are feeding near the surface, especially during stonefly and caddis hatches. It works well on riffles, pocket water, and other broken water where a buoyant, visible fly can draw strikes.

Pros

  • Buoyant dry fly that rides well on the surface
  • Good attractor pattern for imitating stoneflies and caddis
  • Visible profile in broken water

Cons

  • Can be less effective when fish are keyed to a very specific hatch
  • May require floatant and occasional drying to maintain buoyancy
