The PENN®® Spinfisher® VII Live Liner features IPX5 sealing so whether it gets hit with a wave, or you let it ride in the spray all the way home, you don't have to worry about saltwater getting into the gearbox or drag system. Our HT-100™ drag washers are housed in a fully sealed spool to give the stopping power needed for big saltwater fish. A Full Metal Body and sideplate keep the CNC Gear System in precise alignment under heavy loads. The Live Liner feature is perfect for saltwater live baiting and freshwater free spool techniques. A sealed spinning reel built for saltwater use, especially when spray and heavy loads are a concern. The Live Liner/free-spool feature is useful for live baiting and letting fish take line before engaging the drag, and it can also be used for freshwater free-spool presentations.

Pros

  • IPX5 sealing helps resist saltwater intrusion
  • Live Liner feature is ideal for live baiting
  • Full metal body improves rigidity under load

Cons

LOVE A PENN REEL ! ! I have 10 (Ten) “Penn Spinfisher Live Liner Spinning Reels” 2 – 2500’s, 6 – 4500’s, and 2 – 6500’s. I love the live liner feature the best. It doesn’t matter what type fishing you do you can always use the live liner. You can set the drag as light or as heavy as you need. The best of all is if you set your pole down, you can set the live liner and if a fish hits or you hit a snag on bottom you won’t lose your pole overboard. I have not had any problems with these reels. If you take care of your reels, they will take care of you.

Penn 6500 Live Liner Great reel. Using it with 11 ft Carnage lll surf spinning rod medium heavy. Great setup for average fish at Texas Gulf coast. Plenty if flex with good backbone. Reel is very smooth. Just ordered another one today from Penn. I would recommend both for surf fishing.

Spinfisher Live Liner 8500 Powerful reel. Using 50 lb braid with flurocarbon topshot. Caught Bonnethead in surf this week. Over four feet and 8500 handled it well. Only set to 20 lbs of drag took 5 minutes to land and release.

Arapaima-ready! (and Proven) This reel handled Arapaima in the Amazon with ease! I never at any point felt the 8500 was going to let me down. I had actually purchased a Spinfisher VII and a Fathom II to test while on my trip, but the Spinfisher VII 8500LL was the favorite by far. I'll be sure to purchase a second to replace the Fathom II on my return trip!
