Description

The Spin John 80 was designed by B.A.S.S. Elite Series Angler John Crews to be the ultimate spy bait. The Spin John 80 comes with swivels incorporated into the line tie and the back-hook hanger. These swivels help the bait rock back and forth on the retrieve when the bait is falling. The swivel on the back of the bait makes it harder for a fish to get leverage on the bait and throw the hook out of its mouth. The Spin John 80 also has a special "chin" underneath the bait that increases the water resistance on the body of the bait that causes the bait to rock back and forth on the retrieve. The Spin John 80 features 2 sticky sharp Gamakatsu G-Finesse treble hooks with Tournament Grade Wire, for strength and Nano Smooth Coat, for easy penetration, that make these hooks perfect for this presentation. Size: 80 mm Weight: 5/16 oz. Depth: Sinking Hooks: Gamakatsu G-Finesse #6 (339207) Tournament Grade Light Wire Treble

Field Notes

This spy bait is best used with a steady, slow retrieve so the bait rocks and flashes naturally. It shines when fish are pressured or suspended and you want a subtle presentation rather than a hard-wobbling crankbait. The sinking design also lets you count it down and work different depths.

Pros

  • Subtle spy-bait action for pressured fish
  • Sinking profile lets you work multiple depths
  • Swivels help reduce thrown hooks

Cons

  • Not a high-speed reaction bait
  • Requires a more patient retrieve than many hard baits
