Down South Lures

Field Notes

This is a soft-plastic shrimp-style bait for inshore saltwater fishing. It is best worked on a jig head or weighted hook around grass flats, docks, mangroves, and other shallow cover where redfish, snook, and trout feed on shrimp. Use a steady retrieve with pauses or short hops to imitate a fleeing shrimp.

Pros

  • Shrimp profile is a natural inshore forage match
  • Versatile for jig heads and weighted hooks
  • Good visibility from the bright orange/gold color

Cons

  • Soft plastic can tear after repeated strikes
  • Bright color may be less subtle in ultra-clear water
