Field Notes

A perdigon is a compact nymph designed to get down quickly and drift naturally in the water column. It is best fished on a dead drift under an indicator or as part of a Euro-nymph rig in rivers and streams, especially when trout are feeding near the bottom.

Pros

  • Slim profile sinks quickly
  • Effective for deep nymphing in moving water
  • Barbless hook is easier to release fish

Cons

  • Small size can be hard to see and tie on
  • Not ideal for surface feeding fish
