Description

The Good Idea originated from a desire to mimic the round gobies that are so prevalent on the South end of Lake Michigan. It can be fished on a number of different fly line presentations and is especially deadly while jigged and stripped over large drop offs in deep water on sink tips and intermediate line. It gets down quick and the natural fibers combined with the wiggle created by the body wrap drive the big pond predators crazy. I've caught world class smallmouth bass, steelhead, Seeforellen Brown Trout, and northern pike on these all in the same session. This pattern has proven itself to be a great multispecies secret weapon.

This streamer is designed to imitate round gobies and other baitfish, making it a strong choice around deep drop-offs and structure. Fish it on sink tips or intermediate lines with a jigging or stripping retrieve to keep it down and trigger reaction strikes.

Pros

  • Gets down quickly in deep water
  • Effective for multiple predator species
  • Natural fibers and body wrap create enticing movement

Cons

  • Best suited to sinking presentations rather than shallow water
  • May be less effective in very slow or dead-drift situations
