This is a fly-fishing popper/diver style foam fly used on the surface or just under it. It is suited to warm-weather or low-light fishing when trout or other freshwater species are feeding on top, and it can be worked with short strips and pauses to create disturbance and a diving action.

Pros

  • Floats well and creates surface commotion
  • Useful for topwater presentations with strip-and-pause retrieves

Cons

  • Foam bodies can be less durable than harder flies
  • Surface presentation is less effective in cold or deep water
