Orvis

Field Notes

Use as a dry fly imitation of an ant when trout are feeding on terrestrials near the surface. It is best on calm to lightly riffled water and can be drifted naturally along banks, seams, and under overhanging vegetation.

Pros

  • Realistic terrestrial profile
  • Good for selective trout during ant falls
  • Easy to fish with a dead-drift presentation

Cons

  • Less effective when fish are not keying on surface insects
  • Small profile can be hard to see in low light
