Description

THE PATTERN This is one of Mikael’s absolute favourites among the old classic Spey and Dee flies. Already in the early 80s, he had good catches on both Dee strip-winged versions and this one, with a little cinnamon-colored hair wing tied in flat over the mobile heron-hackled body. This classic fly features humus colours, and perhaps that’s one of the reasons it's been so effective on our Baltic rivers and Norwegian rivers running through forested country. We love both the classic approach and the sweeping heron hackles – it's no wonder this fly is still frequently found at the end of our leaders. Field Notes

This is a classic Spey/Dee-style salmon fly pattern pack for swinging through larger rivers. It is best used on long leaders with a controlled swing in moderate current, especially where fish respond to traditional profile and movement. The humus and cinnamon tones make it a good choice in forested, darker-water systems.

Pros

  • Classic proven salmon/steelhead profile
  • Good for swinging in rivers with current
  • Includes materials for tying multiple variants

Cons

  • Requires fly-tying skill and tools
  • Not a ready-to-fish finished fly
