Orvis UK

Field Notes

These are fly-tying materials used to build nymphs and other trout flies, especially classic Pheasant Tail patterns. They’re used at the vise rather than fished directly, so they’re for tying bodies, tails, and wing cases on artificial flies.

Pros

  • Classic material for tying effective pheasant tail nymphs
  • Natural mottled coloration works well for realistic fly patterns

Cons

  • Not a ready-to-fish lure
  • Limited use outside fly tying
