Hazy Fly Fishing

Field Notes

A caddis nymph pattern is typically fished subsurface near the bottom or along seams where trout feed on drifting aquatic insects. It works well dead-drifted under a strike indicator or as part of a nymph rig in moving water.

Pros

  • Effective subsurface trout imitation
  • Good choice for drift fishing in streams and rivers
  • Simple, versatile nymph profile

Cons

  • Not a surface fly
  • Can be hard to see in low light without an indicator
