Description

The West holds few hatch secrets anymore, and the best of the big bug action—Salmonflies, Green Drakes, and Yellow Stones—has been swatted to death on the streams and rivers. There is a secret hatch that native westerns love, the spruce moth hatch, and this fly is a guides best friend. The hatch is generally in the August timeframe. This is a terrestrial hatch, so there is no nymph stage. You will only find the Spruce Moths on or near banks. Rarely do the moths flutter in the middle of the river. You will be amazed how many trout are looking up to eat when the moths are on the water.
