Description

The 2X strong wire Mustad Circle Hook is a true circle hook offering the best hookup ratios. The distinct curved shape of the circle hook will, when the fish takes the baited hook and swallows it, ensure that the hook travels to the corner of the mouth or lip, resulting in fewer deep-hooked fish. The circle hook can be used for a whole range of applications from drifting with live bait for Tarpon or trolling for Marlin with bridle rigged to deep-dropping for Swordfish. When live baiting, always choose a hook size that matches the bait. Setting the hook is more of a firm tightening of the line, than an actual strike. The open eye makes it possible to easily attach it to a split ring, swivel or welded ring by using a pair of pliers. Use it to target Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, Swordfish, Sharks, Wahoo, Halibut, Amberjack, Permit, Striped Bass or Alligator Gar. The “MTL-V1” point combines a more efficient point design with a new sharpening process to enhance the quality. The result is a sharper, sleek new point shape with penetration resistance 50% lower than standard Classic Hook points! Field Notes

This is a heavy-duty open-eye circle hook for rigging live bait or bridle-rigged bait in offshore and big-game applications. Use a firm line-tightening hookset rather than a hard strike to let the circle hook rotate into the corner of the fish's mouth. The open eye makes it easier to attach to split rings, swivels, or welded rings with pliers.

Pros

  • 2X strong wire for powerful saltwater fish
  • Circle-hook design improves corner-of-mouth hookups
  • Open eye simplifies rigging to rings and swivels
  • Sharp MTL-V1 point for easier penetration

Cons

  • Not ideal for anglers who prefer a traditional hard hookset
  • Specialized big-game hook; overkill for light tackle
