Field Notes

A streamer-style fly for imitating small baitfish or minnows. Best fished with strips and pauses in rivers, lakes, or stillwaters where trout or other predatory fish are feeding on baitfish. The WTD version suggests a wake-and-drift presentation near the surface or just under it.

Pros

  • Realistic minnow profile
  • Flashy materials add attraction
  • Versatile for stripping retrieves

Cons

  • No listed size or weight
  • May be too flashy for ultra-clear, pressured water
