Field Notes

This is a dry fly imitation of a mayfly, meant to sit high on the surface and draw fish up. Fish it on a floating line with fine nylon or tippet during mayfly hatches, especially on calm loughs and other stillwaters. It is best when trout are feeding on the surface and you need a buoyant, visible pattern.

Pros

  • Floats high on the surface
  • Good mayfly imitation
  • Effective for surface-feeding trout

Cons

  • Can be delicate to fish on heavy tippet
  • Less effective when fish are not rising
